DESCRIPTION

The Adsorbent Label Filter (ALF) is comprised

nnnn

of a filtration membrane, adsorbent element,

nnnn

and pressure-sensitive adhesive for securing

nnnn

the filter to the inside of the drive.

nnnn

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

nnnn

The ALF is designed to provide protection

nnnn

from hydrocarbons, humidity, and acid

nnnn

gases in a thin label format. The high

nnnn

efficiency filtration membrane encapsulates

nnnn

the adsorbent element while remaining

nnnn

permeable to gaseous contamination. The

nnnn

adsorbent element is specially formulated to

nnnn

control humidity and to adsorb acid gases

nnnn

and hydrocarbons from internal and external

nnnn

sources. The most common adsorbents and

nnnn

their associated functions are as follows:

• Activated Carbon: Relative humidity

control and adsorption of hydrocarbons

• Chemically Treated Activated Carbon:

INSTALLATION IN DRIVE

The ALF is attached to the inside of the drive and is ideally

nnnn

suited for applications requiring a low-profile filter. Because

nnnn

the adsorption mechanism is diffusion-based, the label can be

nnnn

located anywhere inside the disk drive assembly.

nnnn

When using an ALF filter, it is recommended that diffusion

nnnn

protection be incorporated into the drive. Diffusion protection

nnnn

reduces the amount of hydrocarbons, water vapor, and acid

nnnn

gases entering the drive from the surrounding environment.
